KAREN EMMS

Teaching and performing experience

 

Karen has had a vast amount of experience teaching and performing music. She trained at the Colchester Institute gaining a BA (Hons) in music. She then continued her studies to become a qualified classroom music teacher and tutor for Essex Music Services.

Karen has specialised in teaching lessons in piano, oboe, singing and music theory for over ten years in the Colchester area.

During this time as well as teaching enjoyable and interesting lessons. She has prepared students for exams in which they have all had excellent success, given advice for auditions and helped students with show performances.

 

Karen teaches pupils of all ages from 4 to adult.

Lessons are being taught face to face or online.

She has performed solos with many vocal and instrumental groups in various venues from Cathedrals and Theatres to Pubs and Festivals. Karen has also taken part in television and radio broadcasts which include singing at the Royal Albert Hall and for BBC recordings.

​

As a classically trained singer she has performed and acted in many different roles including 'Papagena' for Suffolk Opera's production of the Magic Flute and 1st Witch in Dido and Aeneas with the Aurora Concert. She has sung solos with orchestras, choirs, performed locally in variety shows, Gilbert and Sullivan, musicals and played principal girl in pantomime.

Karen is interested in voice production in different genres and continues to develop her studies in this.

​

As an oboist she has played principal oboe with the 'Colne philharmonic orchestra', played in pit bands and as a pianist she has performed as a soloist, in a band, accompanied singers, instrumentalists and choirs.

​

Karen shares her passion of music in all forms as well as teaching she sings jazz and folk with 'The Brinkleys', performs classical and popular music with 'The Angelicus Duo', plays oboe in ensembles and is currently preparing her own compositions for her debut album. Watch this space.
